Recent Festivals and Celebrations World Book Day 1st March 2018…
Co-Operative Charity trip
Our local Co-Operative store kindly offered us to take part in their charity event to help promote care in the community, we were lucky enough to take a trip to the store to pick out some fruit and vegetables. When we arrived back, the children helped to cut the fruit to make a delicious fruit salad and learn about the importance of healthy eating to keep with our theme for this term.
Sports Day
We would like to inform all parents of our upcoming Sports Day, which will be held on Thursday 30th June 2016. The day will be planned as followed:
Children aged between two and three years will be participating in our ‘Mini Olympics’ events between 9.30am and 10.30am in the garden. There will be several events such as football, relays, egg and spoon race and an obstacle course. The children aged three years and over will be having their events in the afternoon between 2.30pm-3.30pm.
In the afternoon, the babies and yellow room will participate in a teddy bears picnic, so please bring in any favourite teddy bears. Also, please initial your child’s teddy bear.
As each age group participates in the races in the garden, there will be several activities taking place inside. We will complete the day with a picnic tea for all the children. If your child does not usually attend nursery on Thursday but would still like to participate in the sports events, they are very welcome to attend but must do so with an adult.
If you have any questions regarding the Sports Day events please talk to Maxine, Franchesca, Sharnell and Cicely.
Mini Marathon
We would like to thank all Children and Parents that took part in our ‘Mini Marathon’.
All of your amazing donations went to Great Ormond Street Hospital. Cal (our Director) completed The London Marathon back in April in an impressive 4.01 hrs. which we are immensely proud of. Cal managed to raise £4,600 altogether, of which Staff, Parents and Children of both of our nurseries contributed a fantastic £1,300. We are sure that Great Ormond Street Hospital will already be putting these funds to use.
Thank you again for all of your hard work!
Monthly Topic
This month we are learning about Animals and mini beasts throughout the nursery.
We are making collages focusing on feathers, scales and skins and have been working on our animal and bird movements during our write dance sessions with Amanda in the Green Room.
We have also successfully hatched butterflies and are in the process of hatching lady birds, so we should have a full mini beast farm before long.
If you would like to find out more about these activities, we have a monthly plan located next to the front door.
Green room garden
We and the children are very excited to see the new water wall up and running in the green room garden. Just in time for the summer weather!
The wall is complete with an adjustable water channelling system to teach children about the flow of water. An exciting cascading water tunnel and a water tank that can be filled by the children with a hand pump to allow coloured water to flow down clear zig zagging pipes.
Gardening
With the lovely upcoming weather our Garden is starting to blossom, we are asking if any Parents or Grandparents of our Green/Quiet Room children would like to come and join us to help with some gardening.
The children regularly enjoy potting flowers and growing their very own potatoes in our quiet room garden. We’re sure they would enjoy showing you their new found gardening skills.
Sun Cream
Please could you provide sun cream and possibly a sun hat for your little one, as the weather is starting to heat up and we like to keep them protected.
Either hand it in to the office and we can write their name on and pop it in to their pigeon hole or you may do the same.
Thank you!
Staffing News
Summer staff
You may notice some new faces around the nursery.
As we are open throughout the summer and our regular nursery staff are going on annual leave, we have some extra summer staff that come to help out during the holiday season. We stagger holidays throughout the summer so do not worry; one of your child’s keyworkers will always be available to have a catch up about their day.
We pride ourselves on not using agency staff that are unfamiliar with the children and the building, so we have built up a team of staff that come most summers whilst they are on holidays from college or university, so please do introduce yourself.
All new staff and summer staff will be wearing a name badge so that you can familiarise yourselves with them and we have a summer staff board located opposite the office.
Green room
Carol Benrejda will be taking over as Room Senior from the 22nd of June whilst Liz is on maternity leave. Carol has a BA Degree in Education and has experience as a deputy manager in her previous setting. We are very excited to have her with us and are sure the children will help her to settle quickly and please do introduce yourself when she arrives.
We will of course keep you updated on the birth of Liz’s baby and will hopefully have a picture to show you once the little one arrives.
