Children in Need 2016

We would like to thank all parents that donated and bought cakes to help us raise money for Children in Need. We raised £500 in total.

Nativity Play 2016

We would like to say a big well done to the children of Green Room for their hard work and participation in the Christmas Nativity Play. The children worked very hard in memorizing their roles and lines, as well as the songs and it turned out very well in the end!

Parental participation

We would like to say a big thank you to Doctor Ruth (Callum’s mum) who came in to talk to the children about her job as a doctor. She spoke about how she takes care of her patients and the instruments she uses such as a stethoscope. She let the children take turns in using the instruments she demonstrated. The children had great fun listening to each other’s heartbeat.

Exploring storytelling

The children in the Green Room have recently been exploring books by acting them out! When exploring We’re Going On A Bear Hunt, the children shared the story then made a plan of what resources they would need.

Once gathered, the children used small world people to explore the different environments that were present within the book. When exploring Stone Soup, we read the story and the made our own interpretation using resources such as sand, soil, snow, water, shells, cones, sequins and feathers.

The children found these activities very hands on and interesting. Books will be made about their experiences and presented in the reception area in the coming weeks. If there are any other stories you believe children may enjoy exploring, please do let us know.

Upcoming celebrations and festivals

Burns Night

This year to celebrate Burns Night the children in the nursery will be exploring poems, reading about Scotland and listening to bagpipe music. The older children will also be helping to make shortbread to take home.

Chinese New Year

To celebrate Chinese New Year we will be listening to music, reading stories and dressing up as well as participating in activities such as red and gold glitter painting and using tools to write Chinese letters and making.

World Book Day 2017

World Book Day is on Thursday 2nd March. 2017. We will be celebrating this by holding many reading sessions in each room everyday throughout that week, sharing stories from many different types of books. The children are also taking part in a wide range of activities around their favourite books including creating story sacks to tell the stories with. We would love it if children came in fancy dress as their favourite character from a book. It is a wonderful experience for children to discuss their favourite stories and characters, and gives children unfamiliar with such stories a chance to explore them. So, please get making those costumes.

If any parents would like to come in and read to the children during the day please mention this to the office as we appreciate parental involvement in all our activities.
Comic Relief

This year for comic relief the children in the rooms will be participating in a variety of red themed activities. Red playdough will be made with the help of the children with an extra sprinkling of glitter and red paintings and collages will be created. We would like on this day for all the children to come into the nursery wearing red and the children will be helping to make red themed snacks which will then be available to purchase at the end of the day with all proceeds going to the charity. This will take place on 24th March 2017.

My Nursery Child

We have had very positive feedback regarding our new online system ‘My Nursery Child’. We hope by now most parents would have logged on and taken a look at what their child has been doing at the nursery. On the parents site you are able to complete a home assessment on your child this will provide the key-person with information to support their development.  You can also add notes with changes to your child’s routine or anything significant.  Please be reminded that for any urgent messages do call the office.  We have all notices and special events that are coming up in the nursery posted on your child’s page.

Within the next couple of weeks we will be setting up the e-mail notification system, so each time a new observation is added to your child’s records you will be emailed.  If you would like to use this facility and you have not done so already please confirm with the office.

If you are having problems signing in please inform the office and we can look into it for you.
Contact Details

Can we remind all parents to inform the office of any changes in contact details in case we need to contact you in an emergency. Also we would like you to supply photos of all people authorised to collect your children including yourself.  This is part of our Safeguarding procedures.  These can be sent via e-mail or given to the office.
