World Book Day 1st March 2018

We invited all children to come to the nursery on World Book Day dressed as their favourite character from a book. Throughout the week we held special activities such as book mark making, sharing a variety of books at circle times, making up stories of our own and using story sacks to engage with the characters in the books. Supporting reading and engagement with literature is something we promote throughout the year and if there are any parents or grandparents who would like to come in and read to the children in English, or indeed another language, we would welcome them. Please come and speak with Morwenna in the office.

Sports Relief 17th – 23rd March 2018

We held a Sports Relief fundraising event on Thursday 22nd March 2018. Many children came into nursery wearing something red or a sports outfit. The Green Room children participated in various sports related activities which was great preparation for our sports day held this year on Tuesday 3rd July 2018. The Yellow Room and Blue Room held races in their rooms including crawling, jumping, dancing and soft play obstacle courses. We also had a variety of red themed activities such as play dough and painting as well as a bake sale at the end of the day! We managed to raise £200 for charity and want to thank everyone for their support!

Show and Tell

We would like to remind parents of the three and four year old children about the show and tell experiences that their children can participate in. If your child has been on a holiday, would like to share something of interest/an experience then please do sign up your child’s name on the Quiet Room door. Please remember these should be learning experiences and significant objects and not just toys that a child would like to bring into the setting. The theme of the month will also be on there for you to see and use this as a starting tool when thinking about Show and Tell.

The Elves and the Shoemaker

We were lucky enough to be joined by the cast members of the ‘Elves and the Shoemaker’ Puppet show from Millfield theatre company, the company was established in 1988 with one of its first performances being a pantomime show of ‘Humpty Dumpty’ and still continue to sell out an annual Christmas pantomime to this day. The children in the Green Room interacted fantastically and they always thrive when we have outside performers come in to the nursery, they also had the opportunity to meet the puppets after the show.

We would like to remind parents of the self-registration system in the Green Room. When the children arrive, they need to take their photo/name from the board in the hallway outside the Green Room and place it on the self-registration tree in the home corner on the right hand side of the Green Room. At the end of the day the child can remove their photo/name and place it back on the board.

Sports Day 2018

We had a fantastic sport’s day, the children enjoyed many different activities such as the bean bag, sack and feather race and then an obstacle course. Thank you also to the parent’s that took part in the sack race at the end.

As part of the new Ofsted Inspection Framework which came in to effect in September 2015, one of the key changes is the way in which our setting is promoting the prompt and regular attendance of children that attend. Although attendance in Early Years is not mandatory we are required to promote and monitor children’s attendance. For this reason please may we ask parents to inform us of any absences for their child whether they are sick or on holiday. This will support us to ensure we are complying with Ofsted requirement.

Teddy Bears Picnic

Whilst the older children enjoyed their sports day, our younger babies and toddlers enjoyed a day of fun activities also, they joined in with drawing their own interpretation of a teddy bear as well as making playdough bears. We then had a teddy bears picnic in the afternoon and were joined by some of the children’s parents and also their favourite teddy bears.

Summer Staff and Students

If you see a new face around the nursery it is likely that it is a student or member of summer staff, or very occasionally a new member of staff you have not yet met. Please introduce yourself and feel free to ask them any questions or alternatively ask a senior member of staff in the room or in the office; we would be happy to introduce you. Little Angels uses summer staff to cover some permanent staff who are taking their annual holidays, allowing for us to remain open over the summer period.

Some of the summer staff have been Early Years college students, Early Years Teaching students and Middlesex University Nursing Students with us in the past.  They have shown great promise in working with young children and have been invited back to work with us over the summer.  While other summer staff have worked with us previously over past summers.  It is also a great opportunity for us to have additional male staff working alongside female staff at Little Angels as role models for the children.
